This week on Raw, the red brand’s WrestleMania Tag Team Championship match was set with new champs, The New Day set to face a surprising team.
Following Kofi Kingston and Xavier Wood’s title victory over Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin, the due were surprisingly confronted by AJ Styles.
Styles ran down his list of WrestleMania accomplishments before noting he didn’t have a match this year and issued a challenge on behalf of he and his bodyguard Omos for the belts.
The challenge was quickly accepted and the match will mark the televised in-ring debut of the giant Omos. He has only had six matches in his career to date, all non-televised NXT shows.
The scenario has interesting parallels with the wider New Day group. Their former cohort Big E also made his debut in a tag team title match at WrestleMania. He and Dolph Ziggler unsuccessfully challenged Daniel Bryan and Kane for the tag titles at WrestleMania 29.
WrestleMania 37 will take place at Raymond James stadium on April 10th and 11th. There is no confirmation on which night this match will take place.
