As with most things in the wider world during the COVID-19 pandemic, preparations for this year’s WrestleMania have been fluid, to say the least.

A few weeks ago, WWE triumphantly announced that when the event takes place on 10th and 11th April, they would be welcoming significant crowds back for the first time in over a year and tickets would go on sale on Tuesday 16th March. Speculation suggested that WWE would be looking to emulate the Super Bowl in February when they welcomed around 25,000 fans to the Raymond James Stadium for the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.

In recent days, reports have emerged that WWE are looking to significantly inflate this figure. Buoyed by the successful of the USA’s vaccination program and the state of Florida opening their facilities up, it has been said that Vince McMahon’s group actually want to welcome upwards of 45,000 fans on each night – around 75% of the stadium’s capacity.

With these reports swirling, WWE took to social media to announce that tickets would not be going on sale as planned with a new on sale date planned within the week.

Last year’s WrestleMania also took place over two nights but under very different circumstances. The event took place at the very start of the global pandemic and forced WWE to hold the event as a pre-recorded venture from an empty Performance Center and featuring various cobbled together matches. They have not had a paying crowd at any event since.
