Bianca Belair will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Carmella on the July 23rd episode of WWE SmackDown in Cleveland. This is a rematch of their bout that took place on Friday’s SmackDown in front of a sell-out crowd in Houston’s Toyota Center:
Initially, Belair was scheduled to defend the gold against rival Bayley at WWE’s Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View. The Role Model’s injury caused a change of plan, however, with Carmella called upon at short notice as her replacement. With 6 days to prepare, Carmella unsuccessfully challenged for the title on the July 16th SmackDown. Belair emerged victorious from a competitive match following the K.O.D. The champion struck Carmella with her hair in the closing moments of the contest, a move the challenger criticised on Twitter:
Determined to prove herself a fighting champion, a confident Belair extended the rematch challenge on Talking Smack. Nevertheless, with the Money in the Bank briefcase contested at this Sunday’s eponymous Pay-Per-View, both superstars must stay alert on Friday night. Is the landscape of the Smackdown women’s division set to transform next week?
