We can’t have it all, can we readers?

As great as last night’s nods to the 90s were, it seems we were sadly denied what may have been the best of the lot.

Amongst the ICOPROs, the 1-900 lines and the glorious return of Todd Pettengill. We saw a small nod (literally) to one of the true legends of mid-90s WWF broadcasting.

As he walked through the set to the ring, the fiendish cape-wearing Johnny Gargano took a short moment to stop and tip his head in respect to a picture on the wall. A picture of Dok Hendrix. It might have just been us but we lost our mind!

But it could have been so much better. In his post-event media conference call, Triple H revealed that he attempted to persuade the man behind the good Dok, Michael Hayes, to cut off hair and don the conservative blazer one more time. Alas, Hayes shot him down. Triple H revealed:

“You have no idea how hard I tried to get Michael Hayes to show up, cut his hair and be Dok Hendrix. His refusal was loud and very intense I could hear hear him exploding through my cell phone as the Dok Hendrix picture appeared on the wall of Johnny Gargano’s living room before he exited the house which was phenomenal to me.”

So there you have it. We could have had one last, glorious dollop of nostagia if only Michael Hayes would have agreed to a short back and sides.

Where’s Sean Waltman when you need him?
