Tony Khan Goads WWE – “I Can’t Wait To Finally Beat WWE’s Main Show”

AEW President Tony Khan is bracing for war next Friday when WWE SmackDown takes on AEW Rampage for the first time.

AEW Rampage premiered on TNT on Friday, August 13th, with the second episode of AEW’s Friday night offering featuring CM Punk’s return to wrestling after a seven-year hiatus. Starting at 10 p.m. EST, the show normally begins as WWE SmackDown on FOX concludes, transforming Friday nights into a three-hour wrestling extravaganza for fans with no rigidly enforced loyalties.

However, television listings for the 15th of October show SmackDown as a two-and-a-half-hour show, with the final half-hour of SmackDown competing for viewers with the first half of AEW Rampage.

AEW President Tony Khan is unconcerned about the overlap, saying on social media that he welcomes the opportunity to compete against WWE’s “main show head-to-head:”

I saw you’re doing a half hour head-to-head with us. I can’t wait to finally beat your main show head-to-head. It’s been a long time coming. See you next Friday for #AEWRampageon @AEWonTNT”

Khan then took another shot with another Tweet, this time calling the AEW Rampage card for next Friday “straight fire.”

All Elite Wrestling’s next television show is AEW Rampage on October 15th, as the usual Wednesday night Dynamite has been moved to Saturday, October 16th this week.

CM Punk will face Matt Sydal in one-on-one action in the “straight fire” lineup Khan referred to. Punk began Friday’s Rampage by defeating Daniel Garcia via submission after locking in the Anaconda Vice.

As the women of AEW look to build momentum ahead of the tournament to crown the first-ever TBS Champion, Ruby Soho will face The Bunny. Additionally, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos makes his wrestling debut in a six-man tag team match with The Men Of The Year against Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, and TNT Champion Sammy Guevara of Inner Circle in American Top Team’s home city of Miami.
