At the start of last night’s WWE SmackDown, John Cena demanded an answer from Roman Reigns for a Universal Championship match at SummerSlam.
Instead he was met by Paul Heyman, who said that ‘The Head Of The Table’ would give the answer when he was ready.
That time was at the end of SmackDown, and the answer was an emphatic no.
What many didn’t then expect was for Finn Balor to hit the ring and make a challenge of his own.
Balor was coming off the back of a victory earlier in the night against Sami Zayn, and said if Reigns wasn’t going to accept Cena’s challenge, maybe he’d accept his.
Reigns went on to accept the challenge – although notably it wasn’t specifically said the match would take place at SummerSlam.
There has also been no specific advertising off the back of it, so the match may well take place on SmackDown as a build to the expected Reigns vs Cena contest.
WWE’s Twitter banner still features Reigns and Cena, and with all the hype that still seems to be the logical SummerSlam match, but we will have to see where the Balor curveball goes.
