A rising NXT star last night suffered what looked to be a legitimate and serious injury.
Ridge Holland, fresh off starting a new programme with the Undisputed Era at TakeOver 31, faced off with fellow Brit Danny Burch on last night’s episode of NXT. After defeating him in short order, a post match attack brought out Burch’s tag team partner Oney Lorcan.
Lorcan performed a dive from the ring on to the former rugby league player which seemed to cause an undetermined injury. The referee quickly threw up the ‘X’ arm signal that is used to signify a real injury. The camera then cut away to Burch and Lorcan in the ring and Holland was then seen being taken away from the ring on a stretcher.
If this injury is as serious as it seems, the timing could not be worse for Holland and NXT. Real name Luke Menzies and hailing from Batley in West Yorkshire, Holland has been in line for a push on the black and yellow brand and just this Sunday at TakeOver was seen manhandling a prone Adam Cole at the conclusion of the NXT Title match between Finn Balor and Kyle O’Reilly.
If this injury proves to be legit, it will be the latest in a series to befall NXT. The most inopportune came directly after NXT TakeOver 30 in August when new champion Karrion Kross was forced to vacate the NXT Championship days after winning it due to a shoulder injury suffered in the title winning bout against Keith Lee.
Just this past week it was confirmed that the man who won that vacated title, Finn Balor, suffered a broken jaw in his first title defense, a bruising battle against O’Reilly.
We will update this story as further news filters out regarding Ridge Holland’s condition.
