Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik may be the current WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions, but there have been plenty of rumours that it could be shortlived allowing the pair to face each other.
Despite this, Rey has made his stance very clear – whilst there were discussions about them having a match, there’s no longer a need for it to happen.
Speaking with The Metro, the original master of the 619 has discussed the fact that they don’t need to think what it would be like to go up against each other at the moment.
We actually talked about this a while back, when my son started to train.
The more and more we got to spend time together in the ring and outside of the ring, it came to the point where me and my son were like, there’s no need.
The connection here is so beautiful, the love – more than father and son, I think we’re like best friends. For the moment, there’s no time for us to even be thinking, “how would it be like to face each other?”
Whilst continuing to talk about how the idea of facing Dominik was thrown out a while back, he did bring up another point that has been mentioned numerous times – his eventual retirement.
We’re enjoying such a great moment right now within our personal lives, within our wrestling careers.
For me, it’s a complete blessing, before I end up retiring – to have been able to share these moments with my son. So that thought of possibly facing each other, I think was thrown down the trash a while back.
As always in wrestling, you have to take the ‘never say never’ approach with the possibility of a match like this.
Whilst it would be a great match, you could be pretty sure that it would be Rey’s last inside the squared circle, so we don’t want it to happen too soon.
