When 12 NXT stars were released recently, many would speculate that Triple H and Shawn Michaels, seen as the driving forces behind the black and gold brand, would be behind it.
However, a report has surfaced that neither man was actually involved in the cuts.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it was actually Vince McMahon himself, along with Bruce Prichard and John Laurinitis, who made the decisions.
So Paul Levesque and Shawn Michaels didn’t have anything to do with the cuts. I mean, it was done by Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis. And the basic gist is that NXT is going to change in some ways and they think that the competitors, or the lot of the competitors, are too small and too old.
Meltzer then also explained that is more to these cuts than just the talent involved.
Speaking on the shift in mentality behind NXT, he suggested that there could be some big changes to the programme incoming.
The line has been that when they (new talent) get to NXT, we have to teach them not to do indie style. And then when they come to the main roster, we have to teach them not to do NXT style. And that becomes a double whammy too, because that’s the mentality right now.
Either way, those making the decisions must have big plans for those talent not released considering the names they did.
