NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day Title Match Ends With Shocking Ambush

Last night’s Vengeance Day turned out to be one of the greatest NXT TakeOver events of all time. Given the extremely high bar of the previous 32 instalments, that praise could barely be higher.

Despite the insanely in ring standard of the in ring action, one moment stood out that will define this event when we look back on it in years to come.

The moment the Undisputed Era was smashed to pieces by Adam Cole himself.

In true TakeOver fashion, the biggest of moments came right at the end of the show. After Finn Balor’s stellar NXT Championship defence against Pete Dunne, the failed challenger’s cohorts, Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan hit the ring to beat down the Irish champion.

Not unexpectedly, this was soon followed by the UE trio of Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong hitting the ring to clear out the heels. After claiming the ring, O’Reilly offered his hand to the exhausted Balor, showing his respect to the man who had beaten him twice for the coveted belt.

Clearly, these actions did not sit well with Cole who blasted Balor with a surprising superkick. Before the shock could even register with his partner O’Reilly, Cole aimed a similar kick at his jaw too.

All that was missing was a barber shop window!

With Strong looking on in apparent shock, a remorseless Cole left the ring as shockwaves reverberated throughout the viewers at home.

This brings an end to the three and a half year run of the greatest faction in NXT history. In truth, it is no surprise. After doing everything there was to be done as heels, the foursome have enjoyed a brief but fun babyface run that finally allowed the fans to legitimately get behind the group that they had been itching to cheer almost from the beginning.

This hard full stop on that run opens up plenty of possibilities. Will Cole go solo as a heel? Will either of Strong or the absent Bobby Fish join him? Will he make his way to Raw or SmackDown?

Let’s face it, we can’t wait to see this week’s NXT to find out, can we?
