In the second of his two huge bombshells on last night’s edition of NXT, William Regal announced the debut of the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships following the controversial ending to last week’s match for the cross-brand version of title belts. Due to events that led up to the titles’ creation, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez were named as the first holders of the titles…But they were not in possession of their belts for very long.
Having won the inaugural edition of the women’s Dusty Classic, Kai and Gonzalez received their promised title shot on last week’s show. Due to the actions of WWE official Adam Pearce, both they and Regal believed they were ‘screwed’ out of the titles.
It is said that if you have a title, you have a target, and it didn’t take long for the champs to have to start defending their newly minted belts. Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart demanded a title shot on the very same show.
That match would see Moon and Blackheart become the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, consigning the initial champions to a reign that will take some beating in its brevity.
