NJPW today announced that for the first time in 21 years, they will be hosting an event outdoors as early as next month.
Saturday August 29th will see Jingu Stadium host the climax to the Summer Struggle Tour.
The stadium is located in Tokyo and had a capacity of just under 38,000.
He last NJPW to be held at the stadium was their only other outdoor show in history. The event was 1999’s ‘Battle Of Last Summer’ and was headlined by The Great Muta facing The Great Nita in a ‘No Rope, Barbed Wire Barricade, Electric Mat, Electric Land Mine, Double Hell Death Match’
Sounds like a traditional mat classic if ever we’ve heard one!
The rumoured main event for this show is a rematch from Dominion earlier this month when EVIL shocked the world by defeating Naito to win the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles.
NJPW have not yet confirmed the available capacity, bearing in mind social distancing restrictions, but it will not doubt be an incredible spectacle and continue New Japan’s extremely well received from their pandemic enforced shut down.
