Io Shirai’s NXT TakeOver Challenger Confirmed In Women’s Battle Royal

NXT Women's Battle Royal

It wasn’t just a TakeOver challenger for Finn Balor’s NXT Championship title that was decided on last night’s weekly episode.

A challenger to NXT Women’s champion Io Shirai was also confirmed as ‘The Poisoned Apple’, Candice LeRae emerged victorious from a battle royal.

The match itself contained over 20 women, many of which not familiar names in NXT but ultimately, the contest came down to LeRae and one of the brand’s fastest rising babyfaces, Shotzi Blackheart.

The match ended when LeRae hit an impressive looking monkey flip on NXT’s very own Tank Girl from the steel steps and on to the floor.

Naturally, Johnny Gargano came to the ring to celebrate with his wife. With the Gargano vs. Damian Priest North American Title match also set for TakeOver, both husband and wife will challenge for gold at the event. Don’t bet against the Gargano household to be doubly adorned with belts afterwards.

  • NXT Championship: Finn Balor vs. Kyle O’Reilly
  • NXT Women’s Championship: Io Shirai vs. Candice LeRae
  • North American Championship: Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano
