At Survivor Series, Team Raw got a clean sweep victory over Team Smackdown, and because of the win WWE authority figure Adam Pearce said on Raw that they deserved to be rewarded.
This week’s Raw opened with Pearce in the ring with AJ Styles, Braun Strowman, Sheamus, Riddle and Keith Lee.
Each wrestler made his case as to why he should be rewarded with a title match against Drew McIntyre, but it all got out of hand and ended with Strowman dropping Pearce with a headbutt.
After having a talk with Bobby Lashley and receiving a stare from Randy Orton, Pearce later announced there would be three singles matches on Raw, with the winners facing off next week in a triple threat match next week to decide the number one contender for the WWE Championship.
Riddle vs Sheamus was up first and after a lot of near falls Sheamus got Riddle in the Cloverleaf submission, only for The Original Bro to roll the Irishman up for the pin.
The second match saw Bobby Lashley take on Keith Lee. Lashley, who managed to talk his way into the match by telling Pearce he was “the only Raw champion to win last night”.
However, MVP interfered in the match to cause a disqualification, meaning Lee advanced to next week’s match.
The main event of the night was the final qualifying match, with AJ Styles taking on Randy Orton. The end came with Orton on the outside as The Fiend’s music hit and he appeared behind The Viper before quickly disappearing.
The Fiend then caused another distraction with Orton in the ring, giving Styles the opening he needed to hit the Phenomenal Forearm on Orton, securing his place in next week’s match.
So that means next week on Raw we will see AJ Styles vs Riddle vs Keith Lee in a huge triple threat, number one contender match to see who gets to be the one to take on the Scottish Warrior, Drew McIntyre.
