Finn Balor has brought his Demon character back in preparation for his Universal Championship match with Roman Reigns at WWE Extreme Rules.
Balor appeared in the bodypaint for the first time since 2019 on a special episode of SmackDown which emanated from Madison Square Garden in New York.
There was plenty of tension for Balor’s opponent at Extreme Rules, as ‘The Tribal Chief’ was first confronted by Brock Lesnar at the start of the show. ‘The Beast Incarnate’ wanted to know why Heyman hadn’t let Reigns know he would be at SummerSlam, and almost delivered an F5 to his seemingly former manager before Reigns and The Usos could make the save.
During the main event of the night Reigns interjected himself in the Tag Team Title match between The Usos and The Street Profits causing a disqualification.
Standing tall, Reigns answered Lesnar’s challenge to a match which had been made earlier in the night, claiming he would be Lesnar as soon as he had finishing smashing Balor.
At this points the lights went out in the historic arena, before the heartbeat and flashing red lights started flashing to mark the return of The Demon. The ovation was massive, and Balor and Reigns faced off as the show went off the air.

The return of The Demon had been teased by Balor last week on SmackDown. As he lay prone in the ring with ‘The Tribal Chief’ making his way back up the entrance ramp, the lights briefly flickered and the sound of a heartbeat could be heard. Whilst this teased what was coming, the response to seeing the body paint back got a huge reaction from the MSG crowd.
Balor will face Reigns for the Universal Championship at Extreme Rules, which takes place at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio on September 26th.
