Elias Injury More Serious Than First Reported – Significant Layoff Expected

A few weeks ago on SmackDown, Elias was written off television after being the victim of a storyline hit and run attack that forced him to withdraw from the tournament for the vacant WWE Intercontinental Title. He was due to face eventual winner AJ Styles in the second round.

The on screen prognosis for the musical superstar was broken ribs but according to Dave Meltzer, the true nature of the injury is a torn pectoral muscle. This injury took place before the hit and run angle was used as a means to write him off television. According to Meltzer, it will be well into 2021 before we see Elias in the ring again. He said:

“Generally that’s close to an eight month return, sometimes a little shorter, with surgery. Some don’t have surgery. Those in WWE confirmed the injury was legit but we have no confirmation of a surgery.”

Elias had become a significant part of the SmackDown card in recent weeks and we wish him the best for a speedy recovery.
