Chris Jericho Names Which WWE Star Would Be His Top Choice For AEW Move

Chris Jericho

Former AEW Champion Chris Jericho was this week interviewed by What Culture’s Adam Wilbourn. During the interview, Jericho spoke about AEW’s desire to make new stars rather than hire WWE talent en-masse.

He did, however, name who would be his first pick from the WWE roster, and it might not be the first you would expect.

Jericho revealed that Roman Reigns would in fact be his first choice to make the jump. He said:

“We do have a select handful of WWE recruits, but if everybody got released and the company ended tomorrow, we wouldn’t take a lot, I would put Roman Reigns at the top of my wish list for anybody because not only is he a great worker, he’s such a cool guy. If they just let him be him, he’d be the biggest star in the industry. That’s a guy I’d love to get my hands on for sure, one of the few I’d love to have from WWE.”

It’s maybe not the first name you would expect Jericho to pick but it certainly speaks for Reigns’ value amongst his peers. A value that maybe fans don’t get the chance to see and appreciate.

Jericho had interesting comments on the wider practise of hiring significant amounts of WWE performers from all levels of the card. Something both WCW and TNA were often pilloried for.

When asked about AEW’s interest in the group of wrestlers let go by WWE on April 15th due to pandemic related cost cutting, He said:

“Nothing against anybody involved because they’re very talented, but there’s nobody on that list that we’re looking at,” Jericho said. “We’re not doing what WCW did in the 90s or what Impact did. We realize that’s not how you do it and it becomes a retread, we need to make our own stars.

It goes without saying that Jericho’s words should be taken with a pinch of salt as it would not be wise for the company to show its hand regarding talents it was keen to sign. It’s fair to expect a number of those talents to find a home in AEW.
