Becky Lynch returned to WWE at SummerSlam, however has now revealed that she was originally scheduled to make a comeback at WrestleMania 37.
Although it could have been very different, ‘The Man’ returned at SummerSlam in Allegiant Stadium to defeat Bianca Belair in short order for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
The match lasted less than 30 seconds, after Carmella had originally replaced Sasha Banks before being taken out by Lynch.
Speaking to Alex McCarthy of TalkSport, Lynch has now confirmed that her original return could have been at WrestleMania, and she was ready by then.
So gosh, I mean, look… I mean, I thought I was going to be back by ‘Mania. I was ready to come back at ‘Mania. But look, look, I got called for SummerSlam. I stayed ready. I stayed ready. I stayed ready because I’m a hero of the people, Man of the people. I was. Now they’re changing their mind. I mean, that’s on them. Anyway, I didn’t change. They changed. I believe the original return date was going to be October.
Bayley was without an opponent at WrestleMania, and according to Lynch her name had been “thrown around” ahead of the two-day event. However, in the end Bayley would play a part in the hosting duties before being attacked by The Bella Twins.
Whilst many were surprised at how quickly ‘The Man’ defeated Belair at SummerSlam, it has progressed in to a series between the pair where Lynch has backed away from the challenge on numerous occasions. Belair is now back in contention and will face Lynch at Extreme Rules on 26th September.
On last week’s edition of SmackDown, Belair was granted the keys to her hometown county of Knoxville by Mayor Kane, or Glenn Jacobs as he is now known.
Lynch interrupted the ceremony, however ended up escaping quickly when Belair attempted to hit the KOD on the title holder.
