If WWE’s programming this weekend was full of surprise debuts and returns, AEW were determined to throw in a few of their own on the July 21st ‘Fyter Fest Night 2’ episode of Dynamite.
One of these debuts saw none other than Chavo Guerrero make his bow with the promotion as he was introduced as the new Executive Consultant of AEW newcomer, Andrade El Idolo.
The former WWE tag team and Cruiserweight champion was met with a warm reception from the Dallas crowd that visibly touched him. He boasted that under his guidance, El Idolo would conquer all comers in AEW.
Andrade has previously been flanked by another member of the Guerrero family, Vickie. There was no word on her future role with Andrade on the show.
AEW have been rightly praised for their smart use of former wrestlers in coach and managerial roles. The likes of Arn Anderson, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts and Tully Blanchard have used their auras to add gravitas an depth to the acts they have worked with and now Guerrero can hopefully fulfil a similar brief for Andrade.
Fans of a certain vintage, like this writer, will crack a smile at Guerrero’s Executive Consultant moniker. This title was famously used by Mr. Perfect when he acted as the manager for Ric Flair in the WWE in 1991/92.
