The blurring of the lines between Impact Wrestling and AEW continued this week on ‘Impact on AXS’ when Matt Hardy came back to Impact and brought his clients Private Party with him!
The return came about in an angle that started with The Good Brothers, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson, bragging about their Hard To Kill PPV win with Kenny Omega against Chris Sabin, Moose and Rich Swann.
They were interrupted by Sabin who demanded a tag team title shot. When they pointed out that Alex Shelley wasn’t he and he didn’t have a partner, Sabin introduced them to the returning ‘Cowboy’ James Storm to reform their Beer-Guns team.
Before the tag title match could be agreed, Hardy made his way to the ring with his charges and demanded for them to be included in the conversation. Hardy further his ‘Money Matt’ character with a series of audacious brags about the Hardy Boyz being the greatest team ever (But Private Party had the potential to be second best) and how he saved Impact Wrestling from bankruptcy in 2016.
It was agreed that the two potential challengers would face off in the main event with a title shot on the line. This match was won by the AEW invaders when All Elite Wrestling official (And former X-Division champion) Jerry Lynn ran in and held Chris Sabin’s leg to stop him flying from the top rope. Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen then hit their Gin N’ Juice finisher for the win.
After the match, AEW President Tony Khan (In his first appearance in an Impact ring) celebrated with Lynn before The Good Brothers made their way to the ring and a three way brawl between the teams ensued.
The feud between Impact and AEW is clearly heating up with these appearances. It is certainly adding some significant intrigue to Impact on Tuesday nights.
