The longtime voice of wrestling Jim Ross has whittled down almost fifty years in the wrestling business as he names the “most exciting night” of his career.
Jim Ross has the voice of many of pro wrestling’s most incredible moments over the last several decades. He memorably was on the call at King Of The Ring 1998 when Mick Foley was launched from Hell In A Cell into the hearts of WWE fans around the world. Just a few months earlier ‘Good Ol’ JR’ was also on commentary for the coronation of a new WWE Champion as “Stone Cold, Stone Cold, Stone Cold” Steve Austin won the big one at WrestleMania 14.
Jim Ross took to social media after former WWE Superstar Bully Ray – also known as Bubba Ray Dudley – posted a card featuring a who’s who of wrestling legends from a show in Madison Square Garden on September 23rd, 2000.
The night began with Mideon taking on Steven William Regal – who was yet to lose his first name. That was followed by Too Cool facing Lo’Down and Steve Blackman defending the WWF Hardcore Title against Gangrel.
Mixed tag team action was the order of the day as Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler teamed with The Kat to face Tazz and Ivory while later in the night The Hardy Boyz and Lita faced T&A and Trish Stratus. In addition, The Acolytes faced Bull Buchanan and The Goodfather while Al Snow but his WWF European Title on the line against Perry Saturn.
Rikishi teamed with Chris Jericho to face Eddie Guerrero and X-Pac while the WWF Tag Team Champions Edge and Christian defended their gold against The Dudley Boyz. In a stacked main event Kane, Kurt Angle, and Chris Benoit faced the all-star team of Triple H, The Undertaker, and The Rock.
Ross said that was a loaded card in Madison Square Garden but it is now another night in New York that he credits as the most exciting of his career – AEW Grand Slam that took place in Arthur Ashe Stadium:
“Who booked this card for goodness sakes? #AEWDynamiteGrandSlam? Like @AEW #AEWGrandSlam, this MSG card was loaded. But IMO, Wednesday night was the most exciting night of my pro wrestling career which started in 1974. #Blessed [cowboy hat face emoji]”
